Crispell, a certified specialist in both wine and cheese, gave a lesson in cocktailing from locally sourced ingredients, including Hudson Valley's Tuthilltown Whiskey, Core Vodka and bitters from Brooklyn's Bittermens and Brotherhood Blanc de Blanc. Argentine officials rubbed elbows with chefs from Novecento, Le Cirque, Momofuku and 21 top wine producers while tango dancers quickstepped amongst the statues. Other events included a trade dinner hosted by Graffigna that introduced the specially designed Riedel Malbec glass (yes, it seems to make a difference!), cooking classes with Malbec and a walk-around tasting at City Winery. (For our complete story on the Riedel Malbec glass, see page 98. —Ed.) Joining the flight across the East River to Astoria, Michael Psilakis opened his newest MP Taverna. The space has been under wraps for more than a year as the celebrity chef (co-star of No Kitchen Required) revamped the two-story restaurant, creating a modern Greek brasserie in a neighborhood known more for Papou's family diner. Here, tasting plates include lamb dumplings, pan-fried scallops, grilled octopus and paella—Greek-style.
