Trinidad Carnival Parade must be seen to be fully appre- ciated. The pageantry, beauty, energy and tradition is intoxi- cating and not easily forgotten. Fortunately, the event has never lapsed into a perfunctory routine that is only sustained in order to attract tourists. Trinidadians take the event seri- ously and begin preparations many months, and sometimes years, in advance. For our journalist group, the carnival experience was heightened by our stay at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad. After an exhausting day of car- nival fun, we could retreat to wonder- ful hotel amenities such as a spa treat- ment, a great meal and a relaxing night of sleep so that we would be refreshed and recharged to start all over again the next day. Although during Carnival week (February 11-17), the hotel was primarily booked with tourists, at other times, the Hyatt does a brisk conference business. Our group had an opportunity to tour the 428-gue- stroom facility and view its impressive meeting and function space which includes: 43,000 sq. ft. of meeting space 16,000-sq. ft. Regency Ballroom 10,000-sq. ft. multipurpose exhibit facility 12 breakout rooms Two boardrooms For either tourism or business meeting pur- poses the Hyatt Regency Trinidad is an out- standing facility, well-managed with an outstand- ing staff. And you can’t beat the location, espe- cially at Carnival time. Direct questions or comments to Bill Herbert at wgh8089@-earthlink.net, or through Black Meetings and Tourism magazine.
