Over time the paint faded or peeled off. How would you repaint it today? Look at the expres- sion on her face! What is she saying? Masks were often worn in plays, but not this mask. it hung in a garden as decoration. In Greek mythology, maenads were women followers of Diony- sius—the Greek god of theater and wine. Take a close look at the garland that goes around her head. Can you find leaves, flow- ers, and grapes?
