Q. How long have you been a lacma member? A. I have been a member since 1996 with the exception of the years I worked in Vilnius and Warsaw (1997) or lived in New York City (2001–02). I have also been a member of Muse, President's Circle Avant-Garde and, presently, Modern and Contemporary Art Council. Q. What attracted you to lacma? A. I was first attracted to the central location, compre- hensive collection, and variety of programming. Q. What do you consider your favorite component of the museum and why? A. Recently I have become a huge fan of the special exhibits curated by the museum's own excellent staff. I've become more proud and interested in lacma- grown talent and their sensibilities. Q. What is your perception of the Miracle Mile art community? How has the neighborhood developed since you first arrived? A. The Miracle Mile district represents the best of L.A. artistically and culturally. From a true international standard like Jack Rutberg to a trailblazer like Merry Karnowsky, the galleries are first rate and abundant. One can enjoy the beautiful cars at the Petersen Automotive Museum, experience the worldly creations of the Craft and Folk Art Museum, or shop on Third Street or see movies at the Grove. It's all here. It's all relevant. When I arrived in '92 the Miracle Mile was awakening but still a bit rough. Q. With lacma at the area's center, what would you like to see the museum do to further raise Miracle Mile's art profile? What is lacma currently doing that gets you excited? A. bcam has really completed the museum's encyclopedic mission with panache. The new exhibition pavilion will provide even more important visiting program- ming. The "powers that be" completely recommitted lacma to art in the new millennium while honoring its past. All this is tremendously exciting and will continue to invigorate and complement the galleries and neighborhood. The programs that the Modern and Contemporary Art Council and Muse offer have been most satisfying to me and my wife. Arts for NexGen impresses me very much, and I look forward to the day when my daughter will participate. Help LACMA Go Green!
