88 • THE ARTISAN FALL 2019 EXTENDED FAMILY NEWS In Memoriam Virginia "Ginny" Grobeson was truly the defi nition of journeyman as a hair stylist. Her 'offi cial' list of credits is short, but her career was fi lled with work as a trusted set of hands in every category of hair styling. Whether in feature fi lms or television, period, contemporary or futuristic hair styling, she moved from one to the next without skipping a beat. Her fi lm credits include The Flintstones, Ed Wood, Starship Troopers, Chaplin, LA Confi dential and Hoffa. In television, she worked on Night Court, Arsenio Hall, Murder, She Wrote, Deep Space 9, The Practice, Mad TV and General Hospital. She worked for many years on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, winning three Emmys for her work. She was caring of her fellow Local 706 members, sending in checks to cover dues for friends who were going through hard times. She served as hair craft secretary and was a strong proponent of education and skill building for our Guild members. Sister Grobeson retired in 2001, but she will be missed by her many friends and co-workers in Local 706. Virginia Grobeson Journeyman Hair Stylist 1933-2019 Paul LeBlanc was born in New Brunswick, Canada, and knew from an early age that he wanted to be a hair styl- ist. He could not have known how far his love for his craft would take him. He trained in Canada, then moved to New York and worked at the Kenneth Salon. He traveled extensively and eventually landed in London, securing a position at Wig Creations. This led him to the London theatrical world and work at the BBC and in London's West End. After two years in London, he returned to Canada and worked at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, doing everything from news to Shakespeare. His fi rst fi lm was The Black Stallion. Hired initially in Toronto, his work so impressed executive producer Francis Ford Coppola that he was asked to continue working on the fi lm when production moved on to the next phase in Italy. He then moved to San Francisco to Paul LeBlanc Hair Stylist 1946-2019 continue working for Coppola, as well as Lucas Films, crafting Princess Leia's new hair styles for Return of the Jedi. Over the course of his career, he worked with some of the greatest directors in fi lm, including the Coen broth- ers, Steven Spielberg and Francis Ford Coppola. He created hair styles worn by some of the most iconic char- acters in fi lm in the last 30 years, including his Academy
