26 Summer 2019 | wyoea.edu Proposed Change to WEA Constitution: Changing the Word "Student" to "Aspiring Educator" In an eff ort to align language used by the National Education Association, at the 2019 WEA Delegate Assembly, a Constitutional Amendment was proposed to change the language of the WEA Constitution describing a membership category to read "aspiring educator" instead of "student". Below, you will fi nd the exact language of the constitutional amendment approved by the delegates at the 2019 Delegate Assembly convening on March 29-31 in Casper, WY. This amendment will also be printed in our next edition of WEA News. At a minimum of 120 days from this initial publication, in November, the general membership body will vote on whether or not to approve the following amendment: WEA Constitution Changes 1 Constitution Amendment 1, Page 2 41, Right Column, Line 61, Article 3 III, Section 3 - Affi liation, amend by 4 substitution (submitted by Protocol 5 Committee) 6 Active, Reserve, Retired and 7 Student ASPIRING EDUCATOR 8 members of the WEA shall also be 9 members of the National Education 10 Association (NEA) and the appropriate 11 local affi liate if local membership is 12 open to them.
