6 • LMGI COMPASS | Winter 2019 L E T T E R FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear MeMbers, Year's end allows time to reflect on our success, accomplishments and more importantly, where we are heading. We have much to celebrate. With Erika How- ard as our administrative manager and Linda Johannesen as our chief strategist, we have a formidable team bringing the talent and energy to move us forward. Erika's experience as a business owner and sales representative brings organizational expertise. Linda's experience in nonprofits and entrepreneurship defines our goals. We hope to eventually retain them on a full-time basis. We're excited about moving the LMGI Awards closer to the Emmys and beyond the hec- tic spring awards season. It'll be an amazing gala, so mark your calendar for September 21, 2019, at the Broad Theater in Santa Monica, a world-class performing arts center. You asked and we heard you—by popular demand, our new annual business partner- ships have arrived! Replacing business memberships, they provide a customized, cost- effective way for vendors to connect with location professionals around the world. Erika is ready to reach out if you will provide her with your top vendor contact information. We continue to grow, adding new members in Europe, Canada, Australia, South Amer- ica and the United States. Building on our international growth, we are launching our 1K membership drive this January. Increasing membership raises recognition on the global stage. Greater membership yields greater credibility and clout within the indus- try, allowing us to hold global events in the various outposts where we have a presence. The transition to business partnerships and the upcoming 1K drive has spurred the committee to add new members to vet the backlog of 2018 applications in anticipa- tion of the wave of new applicants. Thanks to co-chairs Stevie Nelson and Mac Gordon for all their work in organizing our new regional chairs around the world. Great to have everyone on the team! Guild members organized events in Los Angeles, Vancouver, New York, London and Atlanta in 2018. We're planning more events in these and other cities in 2019. Regional members have specific needs and we will continue to work with them to organize events combining an educational element with networking opportunities. Our members have gone on Fam Tours to far-flung places around the globe, from New Zealand to China, Iceland, Lapland and Tunisia. The Guild is working with sponsors to plan more local and regional Fam Tours for members in production hubs. We are taking an active role with sponsors, planning more effective Fam Tours for the sponsor, as well as the participant. Look for more information on this in the second quarter of 2019. Make sure you indi- cate your interest in Fam Tours in your LMGI profile. As we look to 2019, remember that the Guild is principally run by volunteers. We're only as strong as our supporters. We have a lot of future goals and can only accomplish them with your help. Support takes many forms, from encouraging new qualified mem- bers, to volunteering on a committee (what better way to meet your peers?). Work with the LMGI Awards organizers. Write an article for the LMGI Compass. Submit your fan- tastic location photos for the website. I ask each of you to examine your strengths, skills and talents and see how you might be able to offer them to give back to your location community and benefit the Guild in some small way. Thank you all for your support and let's move together into 2019 invigorated with the opportunities the new year brings.
