BUSINESS: BigStar: creative
strategy and production
This Month In
Quentin Tarantino's latest, Django Unchained from The Weinstein
Company, is described as "a classic spaghetti-style western with
a southern flair" by supervising sound editor Wylie Stateman of
Hollywood's Soundelux. Director Tarantino wanted a soundtrack
with an analog feel, so all the sound design elements are from
naturally-occurring sources. Stateman and sound editor Dror
Mahar created their own reverbs and echoes in three different
locations: Death Valley, Zion Canyon and Monument Valley. To
read more about the audio post for Django Unchained and other
independent offerings, turn to page 38.
