Beginning at $24,500, the Epic-W with Gemini 5K S35 sensor is available for purchase at select Red Authorized Dealers globally and on Red.com. SONY UNVEILS SET OF NEW CAMERAS Sony announced several new cameras at last month's NAB Show in Las Vegas, including the PXW-Z280 4K three-chip camcorder and PXW-Z190 XDCAM handheld camcorder. Part of its expanding XDCAM line of pro cam- corders, Sony's new flagship handheld PXW-Z280 model boasts three 1/2-type Exmor R CMOS sensors, ideal for high sensitivity of F12 (59.94p), a long zoom ratio and deep depth of field. Its three- chip sensors and 4K 4:2:2 10-bit add vivid imagery and delicate color gradation. Enhanced network features, versatile formats and interfaces enable direct-to-air workflows, especially for broadcasters, production companies and documentary creation. The PXW-Z280 is designed for easy use, with features such as advanced Face Detection Autofocus (AF) function. Users can select "Face Priority AF," convenient for automatic face detec- tion and optimization, or the newly introduced "Face Only AF" for more demanding 4K shooting applications. Sony's Electronic Variable ND filter allows greater exposure control by varying the density of the ND filter during shooting while maintaining resolution and depth of the field. The camera also supports S-Log3 and Sony's Instant HDR workflow. A range of formats including XAVC Intra/Long, MPEG HD422, MPEG HD and DVCAM are available to support established workflows. The camera records to SxS cards, and SD cards with optional adapters. Sony's new PXW-Z190 is a 4K compact cam- corder with enhanced usability for independent shooters. The camcorder's newly developed three 1/3-type Exmor R CMOS image sensors capture RGB light independently and deliver 4K 50p/60p imagery with high resolution and a wide range of gradation. Features such as 4:2:2 10-bit ensures vivid and rich color content in HD. The new model incorporates a 25x optical zoom lens to cover a wide focal range for multiple shooting requirements, with three independent lens rings to support intuitive operation. It also features Advanced Face Detection Auto Focus (AF) with "Face Priority AF" and "Face Only AF," as well as the Electronic Variable ND filter. The PXW-Z190 covers a wide range of main formats including XAVC-Long, DVCAM. In addition to these formats, MPEG HD 422 and MPEG HD are available with an optional license. The PXW-Z280 camcorder is expected to ship in July for $6,950, while the PXW-Z190 camcorder will be available in September for less than $4,000 in the United States. CANON INTRODUCES 'FULL FRAME' C700 Canon USA Inc. (usa.canon.com/provideo), has introduced the EOS C700 FF, the company's first full-frame cinema camera. Since the introduction of the EOS 5D Mark II DSLR camera in 2008, Canon has been a part of the full-frame video movement, and the introduction of the C700 FF reinforces Canon's commitment to this market. At the heart of the camera is a Canon-developed CMOS image sen- sor, having a total of 5,952(H) x 3,140(V) photosites with a digital cinema 17:9 aspect ratio, which gives it the same image circle size as the full frame EOS 5D camera series. This supports a wide range of shooting options. Available in both PL and EF mount, the EOS C700 FF provides users with the same perfor- mance, operation and modular design as the EOS C700, which was released in December 2016. Existing owners of Canon's original EOS C700 cinema camera can have their Super 35mm sensor upgraded to the new Full-Frame sensor for a fee. Authorized Canon facilities, such as Canon Burbank, are ready to process C700 upgrades as well as lens mount swaps, and offer equipment drop off, on-site repairs and upgrades, as well as equipment testing and demonstration. The newly-developed sensor featured in the EOS C700 FF has an active image area of 38.1 x 20.1mm and supports readout at full size, as well as Super 35mm, Super 16mm and anamorphic modes. In addition to full-frame lenses, it can be used with conventional Super 35mm lenses to originate 4K/UHD standardized production formats and Super 16mm lenses (with an adapter) to originate 2K/HD production formats in crop modes. The sensor captures wide tonality exceed- ing 15 stops of dynamic range and a wide color gamut meeting ITU-R BT.2020 standards. This offers broad latitude when grading. The EOS C700 FF offers a choice of two high-performance codecs for on-board record- ing: Canon XF-AVC or Apple ProRes. Like other cameras in the 4K Cinema EOS family, the EOS C700 FF uses CFast cards to capture 4K/UHD or 2K/HD. A notable feature of the C700 FF is the oversampling 4K processing that processes a 5.9K image capture to produce 4K (DCI or UHD) hav- ing enhanced image sharpness, curtailed moire and a lowered visibility of noise at the higher ISO settings. This is advantageous for on-board ana- morphic image capture. Additionally, these cameras seamlessly inte- grate with Canon's latest professional 4K UHD Reference Displays for on-set review and color management that conforms to SMPTE ST 2084 standards of HDR displays. The EOS C700 FF EF and EOS C700 FF PL are scheduled to be available in July for an estimated retail price of $33,000. PANASONIC BOOSTS AU-EVA1 WITH FIRMWARE UPGRADE Panasonic (us.panasonic.com/news) has released a free firmware upgrade for its AU-EVA1 Cinema Camera that greatly enhances the camera's record- ing capabilities, including ALL-Intra frame recording formats, raw data output, timelapse recording, HD 4:2:2 interlaced formats and more. These additions expand the camera's abilities so fundamentally that Panasonic refers to the upgrade as "EVA 2.0." Released in late 2017, the EF-mount AU-EVA1 is a 5.7K cinema camera containing a Super-35mm
