www.postmagazine.com 35 POST MAY 2018 SPECIAL REPORT: CAMERAS sensor that features 14-stops of dynamic range, Dual Native ISO ratings of 800 and 2500 and the same colorimetry as the renowned VariCam cam- era system. Due to its small size and weight, the EVA1 is ideal for gimbal and drone work, as well as handheld shooting. The free firmware upgrade is now available for download from the Panasonic Website. EVA 2.0 allows uncompressed raw output via 6G SDI. Formats include 5.7K at 1fps to 30fps, 4K at 1fps to 60fps and 2K at 1fps to 240fps. EVA 2.0 is ALL-Intraframe (ALL-I) codec recordings, offering 10-bit 4:2:2 at up to 400Mbps. In addition, remote operation is now available through third-party wired controllers that connect to the EVA1 handgrip port and will allow focus, iris and zoom control of Canon Compact Cine Servo zoom lenses (18 to 80mm and 70 to 200mm). ARRI LAUNCHES LARGE-FORMAT CAMERA SYSTEM Earlier this year, Arri (www.arri.com) unveiled a complete large-format system that, according to the company, meets and exceeds modern produc- tion requirements. Based on a large-format 4K version of the Alexa sensor, the system comprises the Alexa LF camera, Arri Signature Prime lenses, LPL lens mount and PL- to-LPL adapter. It is also compatible with existing lenses, accessories and workflows. Featuring a sensor slightly bigger than full frame, Alexa LF records native 4K with Arri's best overall image quality. Filmmakers can explore a large-for- mat aesthetic while retaining the sensor's natural colorimetry, pleasing skin tones and proven suitabil- ity for HDR and WCG workflows. Versatile recording formats, including efficient ProRes and uncom- pressed, unencrypted ArriRaw up to 150fps, provide total flexibility. Accompanying the Alexa LF camera are 16 large-format Arri Signature Prime lenses, ranging from 12mm to 280mm and fitted with the Arri LPL mount. Optimized for large-format sensors, the new LPL lens mount has a wider diameter and short- er flange focal depth, allowing the Arri Signature Primes and all future large-format lenses to be small and lightweight, with a fast T-stop and pleasing bokeh — a combination of features that would not be possible with the PL lens mount. Z CAM UNVEILS V1 PRO VR CAMERA Just prior to NAB, Z Cam launched its new 10-lens Z Cam V1 professional VR camera, capable of deliv- ering 7K 30fps/6K 60fps, stereoscopic 360-degree VR while allowing closer proximity due to its small form factor. Its advanced image quality, low-light perfor- mance and dynamic range mixed with a small form factor make well suired for use during major VR productions. The Z Cam WonderStitch stereoscopic stitching software solution is available for Z Cam V1 users for free. The Z Cam WonderLive software solution, which leverages the Nvidia VRWorks 360 Video SDK to enable live streaming high-quality, 360-de- gree stereo video, is also available to support live streaming of both mono and stereo 360 VR. In addition, Z Cam and Assimilate have jointly announced special pricing for post and VR pros, with an Integrated S1 VR camera and Scratch VR Z Bundle, now at $3,999. The Z Cam S1/Scratch VR Z Bundle starts with image acquisition with Z Cam's S1 Professional VR camera, and stitching with its WonderStitch soft- ware, through to a streamlined VR post production workflow with Assimilate's realtime Scratch VR Z tools. With this ease of use and increased produc- tivity, content creators benefit with the ability to focus on their creativity and storytelling rather than wrangling the complexities of technology. Z Cam V1 is priced at $8,880; Z Cam S1/Scratch VR Z Bundle is priced at $3,999. JVC UPDATES 4KCAM LINE-UP JVC Professional Video (http://pro.jvc.com) made three new additions to its family of 4KCAM cam- eras at NAB this year. Among other new features, the new GY-HM250U offers integrated graph- ics and live streaming, while the GY-HM250SP adds sports-specific score overlays. The new GY-HM180U is a compact professional camera without built-in streaming or graphics. Designed for enhanced single-camera pro- duction, the GY-HM250U offers lower-third and full-screen titling solutions for recorded or streamed video output without an external CG or production switcher. Lower-third graph- ic overlays are generated and controlled using a browser-equipped device, such as a tablet or smartphone. JVC also provides a software utility that lets customers upload logos or icons that are displayed in the lower-third of the recorded video. The GY-HM250SP's score overlays for football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer and volleyball can be placed in various screen positions. Camera operators can update the score using an external Wi-Fi connected smartphone or tablet, or receive realtime scoreboard data automatically when wire- lessly connected to a Sportzcast Scorebot that is integrated with the venue's scoreboard. Both the GY-HM250U and GY-HM250SP also feature built-in streaming with Wi-Fi and 4G LTE connectivity that provides live access to CDNs like Facebook Live and YouTube. Other new features include 4:2:2 recording for 4K/30p and 4K/24p, as well as 4K/60p HDMI output. The new tele macro shooting mode on the GY-HM250U and GY-HM250SP provides better focus on close objects than previous models, while the new Zero Config function provides automatic, one-click configuration of the camera when it joins the same LAN as other cameras. An upgrade to the GY-HM170U, the GY-HM180U outputs live 4K via HDMI, but also adds a 3G-SDI output for connectivity flexibility. All three cameras include a 1/2.3-inch BSI 4K CMOS imager and inte- grated 12x zoom lens with optical image stabilizer. The GY-HM180U has an MSRP of $1,795. The GY-HM250U has an MSRP of $2,245 and the GY-HM250SP has an MSRP of $2,595. All three models will be available this month.
