june 2017  /  the tasting panel  /  69 If you hear a rumbling in the distance, in all likeli- hood it is the arrival of the newest rosé from our friends in France and this is big: Maison Louis Jadot has just launched its first nationally avail- able rosé in the United States. Anyone can tell you that the rosé category is booming—and showing no signs of stopping—with literally hundreds of new domestic and imported rosé wines hitting the market this year, a fact that makes the arrival of Jadot's rosé exciting. For buyers out there wading through the deluge of options, Jadot offers quality, value and reputation as one of the most venerable, trusted and revered wine houses in Burgundy—with over 150 years of history making wine. The Jadot Rosé is made of Gamay, harvested by hand and slightly pressed to obtain a delicate pink color. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with temperature control, and remains there until bot- tling to optimize the wines' fruitiness and freshness. "I wanted to create a rosé with a nice complexity on the nose and a soft and refreshing mouthfeel, one that is not too dark in color, a light and fresh pink," explains Frédéric Barnier, Winemaker for Maison Louis Jadot. "For me, the approach was a little bit different from the other wines we produce: You start from a blank page and you have to pick the best elements to make the best possible blend by control- ling fermentation, temperature and balance between acidity and softness, etc. This strategy is very personal and really great fun!" And the buzz on the street is growing louder by the minute. We spoke with brothers Eddie and Kenny Balidemaj, owners of Sapori Italian Restaurant and Bar in White Plains, New York, about the newest addition to their list. They produce high quality wine for good value." —Eddie Balidemaj
