THURSDAY, AUGUST 10 AT 1 P.M. "Deconstructing Spirits" Presented by The Tasting Panel and The Clever Root Magazines Led by Jeffrey Morgenthaler, Bar Manager, Clyde Common/ Pépé Le Moko, chefs, sommeliers and high-profile mixolo- gists will taste and talk about the ingredients and food pair- ing capabilities of a variety of eight different spirits—draw- ing on their spirits knowledge, understanding production and taste profiles. The panel will offer background on each spirit's place of origin, water sources and distilling pro- cesses, while also breaking down the flavor profiles through the make-up, aromatics and foundation for each. Taste neat pours of the spirits alongside the panel! FRIDAY, AUGUST 11 AT 3:00 P.M. "Digging In to Unique Terroir" Presented by The Somm Journal A panel of eight winery representatives from around the globe will talk about terroir and how it affects wine styles and, ultimately, wine sales. Although terroir is a much-discussed subject, the audience will be able to taste each of these wines from lesser-known regions, or lesser- known varieties, from the world wine stage. Moderator Eric Hemer, CWE, MS, MW – Senior VP of Education for Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits, will develop a discourse with each winemaker or winery educator to better under- stand how each soil, climate and geomorphology aspect comes through the character of the wine. Join The Somm Journal at the Society of Wine Educators 41st Annual Conference Grab a front row seat at the Society of Wine Educators 41st Annual Conference at the Red Lion Hotel on the River in Portland, Oregon, from August 10–12. The conference will include tastings, networking and more than 65 sessions on France, California and global emerging wine regions over the course of three days. The Tasting Panel, The Somm Journal and The Clever Root will be in on the action, hosting three dynamic seminars led by the industry's top experts. We hope to see you there!
