"Who doesn't want to make a Western?" I replied,
when director Antoine Fuqua asked me what I thought
about tackling a remake of The Magnificent Seven. This
project was to be my third collaboration with him, and I
knew that we were in for the ride of our lives.
Antoine's idea was to pay homage to the 1960 movie
but to incorporate more of the story line of the original
inspiration, Kurosawa's Seven Samurai. His instructions
to me were, "Let's make a town that's worth protecting,
and worth dying for."
The road to the hero town of Rose Creek took many
turns. After discussing doing the project in Spain, and
then scouting in Georgia and New Mexico, we finally
