Heads up Deadlines IFT MINI-GRANTS Spring 2010 The CTA Institute for Teaching Board of Directors has established a competitive grant program for CTA members and chapters to support strength-based, teacher-driven reform. Applications must specify how the proposal would improve teaching and learn- ing conditions, how student outcomes will be improved, and what the overall benefit of the proposal is for teachers and the teaching profession. The application process for the initial round of mini-grants will begin in spring 2010 and will be open to individual CTA members, small teams of educators and affiliated local chapters. MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS March 5, 2010 CTA and Student CTA established a living memorial in the form of a scholarship fund to aid members of ethnic minorities in preparing for teaching related careers in pub- lic education. This scholarship is supported by voluntary contributions from the CTA membership and the CTA Foundation for Teaching and Learning. Scholarships vary each year depending on the amount of contributions and on the financial need of individual applicants. In order to be eligible, an applicant must be pursuing a teach- ing-related career in public education and be a member of a defined ethnic minor- ity group. Conferences EQUITY AND HUMAN RIGHTS CONFERENCE March 5–7, 2010 Irvine Marriott Hotel Irvine The 2010 Equity and Human Rights Conference theme, “A Nation for All: Celebrat- ing the Diversity in Education,” reflects CTA’s mission of protecting the rights of children and youth to be educated in an equitable and safe public school envi- ronment. The 19th year of the conference will feature workshops that address classroom strategies in underperforming schools, as well as women’s issues and diversity education. The conference highlights will include the Saturday Human Rights Awards Luncheon and the Friday evening and Sunday morning student entertainment. GOOD TEACHING CONFERENCE SOUTH March 12–14, 2010 Los Angeles Westin Bonaventure Hotel The CTA Good Teaching Conference, presented in Northern and Southern editions, is designed to support excellent teaching and learning practices for classroom teachers. Offering a variety of diverse workshops in curriculum content areas for K-12 teachers, the conference provides opportunities for professional development and offers time to network and share ideas with colleagues and experts in the field. EDUCATION SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS CONFERENCE May 14–16, 2010 Millbrae Westin San Francisco Airport The 23rd annual CTA ESP Conference offers sessions that meet the specific needs of education support professionals. The conference kicks off with a reception on Friday night. Sessions are offered on Saturday and Sunday, and the conference concludes on Sunday with a lunch general session.
