A Perfectly Executed T Triple Play The Angels, Conn Creek Winery and Costco Hit One Out of the Park here may be no crying in baseball, but there is certainly room for a little wining. Conn Creek produced a 2009 Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay and a 2007 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon for the Angels. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim proved this last year by partnering with Napa Valley's Conn Creek Winery and Costco to create and distribute wine in conjunction with the club's 50th anniversary. While the wines were produced to commemorate a half-century of hom- ers and strikeouts, they were also made to raise money for the team's community outreach program, the Angels Baseball Foundation. The latter part of the Halos' strategy came to fruition on the Angel Stadium grass on May 29, as Costco presented the organi- zation with a check of $26,000 for their charity establishment. "We were excited to be a part of the Angels' 50th anniversary celebration," said Tina Boyle, Costco's beer, wine and spirits provider. "We felt the wines were a really special way to be linked to the team and their charity." The Angels' partnership with the winery produced enough 2009 Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay and 2007 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon to create 8,000 cases. Costco secured 5,000 of them for retail purposes, while the remaining amount was sold to local restaurants.
