Torres' work, which ranges from the series of short films he produced for the project "Stars of the Bicentennial" (to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the founding of Mexico) to underwater cinematography and commercials, is multifaceted and Torres needed a shared storage system with high perfor- mance and flexible volume management. He decided on a Facilis TerraBlock 24D shared storage system. Its Shared File System easily accommodates his complex multi-plat- form requirements and enable his team to collaborate on projects using diverse applications and formats. AKITIO RELEASES 4-BAY THUNDERBOLT3 STORAGE DEVICE BREA, CA — Akitio has released its new Thunder3 Quad, a four-bay, Thunderbolt 3 storage device offering fast transfers with the added flexibility of a DisplayPort video output in a form factor small enough to fit on a desktop. The solution delivers transfer speeds of up to 1,375MB/s while simultaneously providing two 4K video streams to con- nected displays and is intended for pros wanting high speed external storage and/or video streams in one connection. The enclosure features two Thunderbolt 3 ports and a DisplayPort to connect to the latest 4K 60Hz displays. The second Thunderbolt 3 port operates the same as a Thunderbolt 3 computer port by supporting Thunderbolt 3 (up to five daisy chained), USB 3.1 (10Gb/s) and DisplayPort devices. The four trays in the Thunder3 Quad are completely flexible in ac- commodating either 2.5-inch SSDs or HDDs, or 3.5-inch HDDs. The Thunder 3 Quad is available this month and has a suggested retail price of $429.99 for the diskless (0TB) enclosure. SONNET DONATES GEAR TO JOHN LENNON EDUCATIONAL TOUR BUS IRVINE, CA — Sonnet Technologies (www.sonnettech.com) donated its Thunderbolt 2 expansion systems to the nonprofit John Lennon Educational Tour Bus (www.lennonbus.org), a mobile pro audio, video and broadcast studio that provides hands-on experience to students of all ages. At the centerpiece of the donation are two xMac Pro Servers with Mobile Rack Device Mounting Kits. The xMac Pro Server is a Thunderbolt 2-to-PCI Express expansion system that securely mounts a cylinder Mac Pro comput- er horizontally inside a specially designed 4U modular enclosure. It connects three PCIe 2.0 slots via Thunderbolt 2. Without taking up additional rack space, the xMac Pro Server provides space to install ad- ditional equipment such as hard drives, SSDs and other devices in two 5.25-inch mobile rack bays. G-TECHNOLOGY OFFERS NEW 12-BAY G-RACK 12 SAN JOSE, CA — G-Technology's (www.g-technology.com) new G-Rack 12 is its first NAS-based device for content creation professionals. The G-Rack 12 streamlines media workflows, including 4K and above resolution, with a scalable 12-bay server offering capacities up to 120TBs. Its reliability, high-performance and centralized storage capabilities are intended for small- to medium-sized post houses using Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro X and Avid Media Composer. An optional expansion chassis is available for expanding up to another 120TBs of storage. The G-Rack 12 is intended for collaboration, utilizing quad 10-gigabit Ethernet connections for high-speed data transfers. The new solution incorporates a G-Technology-developed NAS operating system with a BTRfs file system, and an easy to understand graphical interface, removing the complexity of typical NAS administrative systems. The 12-bay expandable units incorporate enterprise hard drives and are available in 48TB, 72TB, 96TB, and 120TB storage capacities. OPTIMUM PRODUCTIONS SWITCHES TO SMALL TREE TITANIUMZ-8 ALPHARETTA, GA — Optimum Productions (www.optimumpro- ductions.com), a video production agency, here, recently switched to Small Tree (www.small-tree. com) shared storage to meet its workload, which includes projects for Coca Cola, P&G, SunTrust and HD Supply. Optimum currently uses five workstations — four Macs and one PC — connected to the Small Tree system and a range of software, including Cinema 4D and the Adobe suite. Optimum had been relying on a two-tera- byte NAS to support post efforts, but was maxing out its NAS server, and was transitioning to 4K production. Small Tree's TitaniumZ-8 is an afford- able, full-featured, all-in-one Ethernet-based shared storage system with ad- vanced file sharing capabilities. The TitaniumZ-8 is built on an open source operating system that was customized to be easy to use, feature-rich, reliable and perform at a high level.
