42 The Costume Designer Spring 2016 IN FOCUS BOLDFACE NAMES BFN - WORK CD Carol Ramsey is designing ABC's When We Rise, an eight- hour miniseries on the history of the LGBT movement in San Fran- cisco from 1972 through 2013. It stars Guy Pearce, Mary-Louise Parker, Rachel Griffiths, Michael K. Smith, Austin P. McKenzie, Jona- than Majors, Emily Skeggs, and Fiona Dourif. CD Christine Jor- dan assisted and ACD Lois DeArmond illustrated. The pilot was directed by Gus Van Sant and series created by Dustin Lance Black. CD Jill Ohanneson is designing the new series Heartbeat for NBC Universal, starring Melissa George, as a female heart surgeon, and Dave Annable. The series is shooting in town on the Universal lot and Gina (Flanagan) DeDomenico illustrated. Ohanneson also designed the Cruel Intentions pilot for Sony/NBC Universal, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and Peter Gallagher, directed by Roger Kumble. This is a TV reboot picking up 15 years after the original 1999 film. It was filmed in Los Angeles and San Francisco. CD Johnetta Boone is in Atlanta designing the OWN/Lionsgate series Greenleaf, starring Merle Dandridge, Lynne Whitfield, Keith David, Lamman Rucker, Kim Hawthorne, Tye White, Deborah Joy Winans, and Oprah Winfrey. The series centers on the journey of an estranged daughter reentering the world of a mega-church run by her powerful parents. CD Brenda Maben has returned to costume design the Netflix reboot of Gilmore Girls, the original series of which ran from 1999 to 2006. The four 90-minute episodes titled "Winter," "Spring," "Summer," and "Fall" are written and directed by the original creators, Amy S h e r m a n - P a l l a d i n o a n d Daniel Palladino. They con- tinue along the path of the original series and feature all of the original cast. CD Justine Seymour has just started designing One Mississippi for Amazon/FX and shooting in LA. This semi-autobiographical dark comedy, starring Tig Notaro, follows her as she returns to her home- town after the sudden death of her mother. Noah Harpster, John Rothman, and Casey Wilson co-star. CD Mary Zophres started prepping for Battle of the Sexes in Feb- ruary. The film shoots in Los Angeles and with a budget below $20 million, qualified for the recently added incentives. It stars Emma Stone as Billie Jean King and Steve Carell as Bobby Riggs and is directed by the husband-and-wife team of Jonathan Dayton and Val- erie Faris, who directed Little Miss Sunshine. Zophres couldn't pull it off without her amazing crew and ACD Jo Kissack. CD Debra McGuire is designing the feature A Futile & Stupid Gesture (The life of Doug Kenney) for Netflix Original Films with CD Lenka Padysakova assisting. David Wain directed. She also designed the pilot Speechless for FOX/ABC. Branching out, she teamed up with CD Marianne Parker as ACD for the musical I Only Have Eyes for You (The life of songwriter Al Dubin), open- ing May 10 at the Montalban Theatre in LA. Lastly, McGuire, CDs Hope Hanafin and Julie Weiss are co-teaching a film, theater, and television Costume Design class for Columbia College's Los Angeles campus this summer. OWN's original drama Greenleaf Maben back for Gilmore Girls CD Anne Dixon with actor Kevin Hanchard CD Anne Dixon designed the recently released Born to Be Blue with Ethan Hawke as Chet Baker and Carmen Ejogo as Jane/Elaine. The feature was produced by Jennifer Jonas, Leonard Farlinger, Robert Budreau, and Jake Seal. Next up, she just premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival a feature film called Lavender, by Ed Gass-Don- nelly with Abbie Cornish, Diego Klattenhoff, Justin Long, and Der- mot Mulroney. Her next feature preps in May. The film Our House is directed by Anthony Scott Burns with Thomas Mann starring. CD Olivia Miles designed the pilot Hail Mary for ABC. The half- hour comedy filmed in Georgia stars Casey Wilson, Retta, Jackée Harry, Sarah Baker, and Gareth Reynolds. With all of those funny people, Miles enjoyed the project.
