Amoretti Recipes from Whiskey Cake SEVEN HORSE "I just got back from the Jack Daniel's Distillery, TUSCAN SUNRISE " says Sean Conner, Bar Manager at Whiskey Cake in Plano, Texas, "and with the Kentucky Derby in May, I wanted to do a spin on a classic Julep. I used Tennessee whiskey instead of Kentucky bourbon, and tangerine syrup adds sweet flavoring against the bitters. I call it the Seven Horse." Whiskey Cake's Head Bartender Bonnie Wilson says, "Classic drinks are often the best templates for trying new things,"like Grey Goose L'Orange and Amoretti Almond in this Tuscan Sunrise. Head Bartender Bonnie Wilson uses Amoretti products to supplement Whiskey Cake's own fresh housemade syrups. Delivering Flavor Both Tangerine and Almond Premium Syrups have been a part of the Amoretti lineup since the company's syrup inception. "We always knew our Almond Premium Syrup would be used with coffee, but it turns out it makes amazing Mai Tais," says Maral Barsoumian, President of Amoretti. "Bartenders and home users let us know through letters, Facebook and Twitter that they appreciate how the syrup adds great bitterness of almond without too much sweetness, which can sink an otherwise good cocktail." Barsoumian says that once the company decided to make some products available online for the home, not only did innovative suggestions for using them increase, but so did the positive feedback about how they enhance cocktails without overpowering them. "Tangerine is so versatile in icy-cold bar drink applica- tions, but our goal is to interfere with your creation as little as possible. We just want to deliver flavor!" With "depth and complexity of flavor," Amoretti Tangerine and Almond Syrups complement the freshness-based bar program at Whiskey Cake. may 2012 / the tasting panel / 83
