I enjoy working for the district" — Shawn Cook The 7th annual Teachers of the Year dinner was held May 7, 2015, to recognize some of the best teachers in the Higley Unified School District. One teacher from each school site, as well as the preschool system, was selected to be honored from the more than 550 teachers in the district. Higley High School math instructor Shawn cook was named the Higley Unified School District Teacher of the Year during a recent awards dinner. "I can't say how much I've enjoyed this year and being at Higley High School. I enjoy working for the district," Cook said when he was brought to the stage. The following teachers were honored: centennial Elementary – Melanie Schneider, 1st grade; chaparral Elementary – Linda Kamp, 2nd grade; coronado Elementary – theo Zwiernik, 4th grade; cortina Elementary – Julia Brink, 1st grade; Gateway Pointe – Joanna Hughes, 5th grade math/science; Higley traditional Academy – Laurie Shanken, 5th grade; Power ranch – Josh Vanderflught, special education; San tan Elementary – Jaime Mcclure, 6th grade math; cooley Middle – Liz Holloway, 7th grade language arts; Sossaman Middle – Nancy foote, 8th grade conceptual physics; Higley High – Shawn cook, honors math; Williams field – Scott Shields, English; and Preschool – Jennie Hossack, Sossaman Early childhood Development center. "We are fortunate to have such fine teachers in HUSD," Superintendent Dr. Denise Birdwell told the audience.
