DOLLAR GENERAL FOUNDATION YOUTH LITERACY GRANTS Youth Literacy Grants provide funding to schools, public libraries, and nonprofi t organizations to help students who are below grade level or experiencing diffi culty reading. Grant funding is provided to assist in the following areas: • Implementing new or expanding existing literacy programs • Purchasing new technology or equipment to support literacy initiatives • Purchasing books, materials or software for literacy programs Winners receive $4,000. UNSUNG HEROES AWARDS PROGRAM For more than 15 years, and with nearly $4 million in awarded grants, Unsung Heroes has proven to be an A+ program with educators. This program by Voya Financial (formerly ING) has inspired success in the classroom and impacted countless numbers of students. Each year, 100 educators are selected to receive $2,000 to help fund their innovative class projects. Three of those are chosen to receive the top awards of an additional $5,000, $10,000, and $25,000. Applicants must be full-time educators, teachers, principals, paraprofessionals, or classifi ed staff with effective projects that improve student learning and employed by an accredited K-12 public or private school located in the United States. All K-12 education professionals, whether or not they are clients of Voya, are eligible. Applications must be verifi ed by the school superintendent, principal, or applicant's immediate supervisor. NEA FOUNDATION: STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT GRANTS The NEA Foundation Student Achievement Grants provide funds to improve the academic achievement of students by engaging in critical thinking and problem-solving that deepen knowledge of standards-based subject matter. The work should also improve students' habits of inquiry, self-directed learning, and critical refl ection. Practicing U.S. public school teachers, public school education support professionals, or faculty or staff at public higher education institutions are eligible for these $2,000 and $5,000 grants. GLORIA BARRON PRIZE FOR YOUNG HEROES The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes honors outstanding young leaders who have focused on helping their communities and fellow beings and/or on protecting the health and sustainability of the environment. Winners receive up to $2,500. Open to youth ages 8-18. Apply online by April 15, 2015 at barronprize. org. NABT: BIOCLUB STUDENT AWARD The National Association of Biology Teachers BioClub Student Award recognizes outstanding student members of a NABT BioClub. The award is a great way to recognize that exceptional student who inspires you to be an even better biology teacher. Winners will receive a textbook scholarship from Carolina Biological Supply Company and an award plaque. Open to any graduating senior who is a member of an NABT BioClub chapter and has been accepted to a two- or four-year college/ university.
