AEA Advocate | Spring 2015 35 Teacher Opportunities RESOURCES RESOURCES RESOURCES RESOURCES RESOURCES RESOURCES RESOURCES RESOURCES RESOURCES RESOURCES RESOURCES NEA FOUNDATION: LEARNING & LEADERSHIP GRANTS NEA Foundation Learning & Leadership Grants support public school teachers, public education support professionals, and/or faculty and staff in public institutions of higher education for one of two purposes: Grants to individuals fund participation in high-quality professional development experiences, such as summer institutes or action research; grants to groups fund collegial study, including study groups, action research, lesson study, or mentoring experiences for faculty or staff new to an assignment. Public school teachers grades K-12; public school education support professionals; or faculty and staff at public higher education institutions are eligible for these $2,000 and $5,000 grants. QATAR FOUNDATION: THE WISE PRIZE FOR EDUCATION The WISE Prize for Education recognizes an individual or a team of up to six people for an outstanding contribution to education. The achievements of the nominated individual or team should have had a signifi cant and lasting impact upon education at any level and should demonstrate an inspiring and visionary approach. Winners will receive a gold medal and US $500,000. Individuals or institutions - including schools, international organizations, and private companies - from anywhere in the world are eligible. MCCARTHEY DRESSMAN EDUCATION FOUNDATION: ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT GRANTS The McCarthey Dressman Education Foundation offers Academic Enrichment Grants designed to develop in-class and extra-curricular programs that improve student learning. The foundation considers proposals that foster understanding, deepen students' knowledge, and provide opportunities to expand awareness of the world around them. Winners receive $10,000 per year for three years. Open to educators employed by schools or non-profi t organizations with the background and experience to complete the project successfully who have direct and regular contact with students in grades pre-k to 12 from low-income households. WORLD OF CHILDREN: EDUCATION AWARD The World of Children Education Award recognizes individuals making extraordinary contributions to the lives of vulnerable children in their educational development. Winners receive $50,000. Nominees must do this work over and above their normal employment, or work for little or no pay, have been doing this work for a minimum of 10 years, and have an existing non-profi t organization in good standing, which can receive grant funds if awarded. FUND FOR TEACHERS The Fund for Teachers provides funds for direct grants up to $5,000 to teachers to support summer learning opportunities of their own design. Teachers who work with students in grades pre-kindergarten through 12, with a minimum of three years teaching experience, full-time, spending at least 50 percent of the time in the classroom at the time grants are approved and made are eligible to apply.
