march 2015  /  the tasting panel  /  91 RedTerra Vodka Peter Parker, Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne all know a thing or two about defying the norms of society. Each could have chosen the easy path and followed the herd of the masses, but as Spiderman's wise Uncle Ben once said: With great power comes great responsibility. Luckily for us, RedTerra Vodka followed in the footsteps of these other great heroes and used the power of the blue agave for good. Instead of transforming these plants from the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico into the conventional tequila, the state-of-the-art distillery decided to create a unique, clean vodka in small batches. For this costume change, RedTerra is triple-distilled—twice in Mexico under the watchful eye of Master Distiller Marco Cedano and then, in true craft fashion, finished on a 22-plate, dual copper-column still in Portland, OR. No blending, no artificial flavors—and no phone booths required! While these heroes may stop any bad guy in their path, they have yet to tackle the true evil in this world: bad spirits. To conquer these menacing creatures, it takes heart, dedication and the right ingredients. That's when The League of the Fantastic Pour swoops in to save the day. These craft spirits defend our palates against the offensive liquors invading our cities, many of which hide in plain sight. With their powers combined! by Emily Coleman and Brian Kustera CRAFT SPIRITS THAT ARE SAVING THE WORLD . . . ONE PALATE AT A TIME master of disguise: GO-GO GADGET TASTING NOTES! Lush baked tropical fruits; pineapple and banana grace the nose, along with perfumed floral tones. The pal- ate ascends in spicy, white petals, blue fruit sweetness and a fine mist of baked agave on the finish. Its complexity lends itself to expand flavor profiles with each sip. 92 —Meridith Mayd pretzels and sweet figs take you 'round and
