Maybe some of you were better versed in tannins than togas in your undergrad days, but if your col- ligate experience tapped out with the Champagne of Beers, fear not—the Cru Artisan College is here to help you elevate your college memories! This May, The SOMM Journal and Banfi Vintners are partnering to bring a series of viniferous courses to a campus near you, each hosted by a Headmaster to guide the sommelier student community through classes led by some of the top winemakers in the world. Syllabus courses will include "Going Green: All Hail Mother Nature," discussing the green, greener and greenest in winemaking. Topics will include sustainability, organics, biodynamics and will offer insights from producers striving to make a difference. "A Sense of Place" lecture will take a look at topography, terroir and technique, with our faculty examin- ing hillside versus seaside terroir and striving to answer the age-old questions: Does winemaking trump grape growing? Do blends obscure typicity? It will also bring to light the heroic efforts of winemakers to rescue indigenous Italian varietals from the brink of extinction. "An Amore for Amarone" will offer an insider look at one of the world's most unique wines, led by faculty members and Amarone experts Andrea Sartori and Christian Scrinzi, while Castello Banfi Chief Winemaker Rudy Buratti will lead an in-depth look at clonal research and vineyard variation in "Brunello Deconstructed." Throughout the day, our Headmasters will issue pop quizzes, with prizes awarded by The SOMM Journal to our Honor Roll students, and we'll open the Student Union for a walk-around tasting every afternoon, open to all qualified members of the trade. Best of all: Tuition is free! But if you want to get into the Cru Artisan College, you'll need to apply today! Space for the CAC Class of 2015 is extremely limited, and this is a chance you won't want to miss. Visit www.sommjournal.com/CAC or email rburkons@tastingpanelmag.com for your chance to spend a day with our fantastic faculty.
