The festival is a five-day public event and is the main fundraiser for Blank's Children's Hospital in Des Moines. The ISEA's tree, nicknamed "Frost-tree" had a snowman theme and included chocolates, books and an embroidered pillow among its gifts. Iowa State University student Megan Ball puts the finishing touches on a bird house she built during the ISEA student conference in West Des Moines. Des Moines Education Association Director Doug Smith and Edmunds Elementary Teacher Dwana Bradley pass out gently-used books to fifth graders at Edmunds Elementary School in Des Moines. Edmunds is a Tier I Persistently Lowest-Achieving School.
