The Fun-Upper Not a news flash: Cocktails are fun! Also not groundbreaking: I love sparkling beverages! Actual news for readers of THE TASTING PANEL: Perlini is here, and she's so ready to fun you up. A carbonation tool designed specifically to put some bubbles in your favorite cock- tail, the Perlini system infuses your drink with vigorous and persistent bubbles. The best part? It's quick and easy enough to use for this at-home-mixologist, which means it'll be a snap in the hands of a pro. Bless This Bloody I was a late Bloody Mary bloomer, and spent years holding my nose at the mere thought of this classic cocktail, thanks to an unfortunate incident involving a sub-par Bloody that was more catsup than cocktail. Thankfully, I've since learned that there are delicious Bloodies out there, and with mixers like Big Daddy's leading the way, I'm a veritable convert. With 20 years of bartending under his belt, Big Daddy's James Miller has perfected his bloody mix to boast full, feisty flavors that will keep you (and me) clamoring for more. Super-Soda It may have been 11 a.m. on a Wednesday, but when I first cracked open a bottle of Lavender Dry Soda at the offices of THE TASTING PANEL, I did an immediate scan: "Is there a bottle of gin around here?" I asked, knowing after one sip of this herbaceous, lightly-sweet soda that I had one half of an awesome Gin & Soda on my hands. Made from all-natural ingredients with minimal amounts of pure cane sugar, the Dry lineup is an ideal platform for fresh true-to-fruit flavors—and cocktails—and score major style points for both packaging and waistline friendliness, with all seven flavors packing fewer than 70 calories.
