HOT PROPERTY An Italian Masterpiece HISTORY MEETS MODERNITY AT THE PARK HYATT MILAN by Anthony Dias Blue very once in a while a hotel comes along that gets everything right: location, design, ambience, restau- rants, bar, spa and service. The Park Hyatt Milan is just such a rare and wonderful place. Located in a 140-year-old building that was completely renovated eight years ago, this magnificent hotel sits at the entrance to the famed Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and steps away from the Piazza Duomo and the La Scala opera house. The fashionable Via Montenapoleone is a short walk away. E The building blends a profound sense of history with the trendy, modern design that characterizes Milan in the 21st century. The interior is designed by Ed Tuttle, whose inspiration for the Vendôme Hyatt in Paris has made a dra- matic statement in the City of Light. The look is contemporary while still honoring the styles of the past. But a magnificently appointed room, bathroom amenities and a full comple- ment of electronics is not always enough. Adding to an already memorable experience is the stunning dining room serving contemporary north- ern Italian cuisine under the guidance of newly appointed chef Andrea Aprea—at 34 years old already a veteran of several Michelin-starred establishments—whose food reflects the history and style of Milan combined with the modern concepts of his generation. The meal I had was exquisite and bursting with the flavors of the day. The bar, one of the city's most beautiful and active, offers traditional cocktails and some of the most fashionable combi- nations currently in style. There's an energy about the Chef Andrea Aprea. General Manager Claudio Ceccherelli's spirited style pervades the hotel. Park Hyatt Milan and it seems to be coming from a small animated figure that can be seen in the lobby, in the bar, in the restaurant and sometimes in all places at once. He is Claudio Ceccherelli, the General Manager. His spirited style pervades the hotel enough so that he was named Hotelier of the Year by the prestigious Virtuoso organization. Every once in a while you have to treat yourself to something The hotel is at the entrance of the chic Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. 28 / the tasting panel / september 201 1 special, something that sets the standard for all other things of its type. The Park Hyatt Milan is just such a place. Once you have experienced it, you well know the level of quality by which all other similar places should be judged.
