IX ESTATE RED WINE Parcel IX is 120 acres on Pritchard Hill, of which 20 are planted: 16 acres to Cabernet Sauvignon, four to Syrah. The vineyard was acquired in 1998 and planted in 2000. The wine is generally predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, with varying amounts of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. 2002 IX Estate Red Wine production: 165 cases (second leaf); current secondary market retail: $700 (average); winemaker: Allison Tauziat; Powerful, rich and intense with fine structure and notes of plum, cassis, olive and iron; full-on fruit, savory and big-boned. Drink now–2045. 2010 IX Estate Red Wine production: 1,050 cases; current retail price: $500; winemaker: Allison Tauziat Complex and powerful with fine structure and intensity; linear and rich, showing light smoke and spice; savory and beautifully balanced; very, very long. Jeff Anderson: "Bass notes of cedar, graphite, tobacco leaf, dried plum, rosemary, meat, oak and French roast coffee; showing well now but will grow into a spectacular wine." Group rating: 98.
