104  /  the tasting panel  /  september 2014 COMPETITIONS ver the course of two days in July, 13 "lucky" bartenders from around the world gathered in New York City at the Nomad Hotel to compete in the inaugural Chivas Masters Cocktail Competition finals. The event, hosted by the United States Bartenders Guild, was the culmination of preceding regional heats around the world. The challenge? To travel back through time, rediscover the classic cocktails of the past and recreate them with Chivas. The winner would become the first Chivas Master. The regional winners flew to New York for the finals. In all, 13 countries were represented.
