PRODUCTS Fixstars releases new video encoder T JVC expands monitor line-up WAYNE, NJ — JVC (www.pro.jvc.com) has expanded its Vérité Series of pro monitors with the R Series. The 24-inch DT-R24L4D ($3,995) and 17-inch DT- R17L4D ($2,395) LCDs offer the same 10-bit 1080p pro- cessing for critical image evaluation as the company’s G Se- ries and are housed in metal cabinets making them suit- able studio and mo- bile applications. The R Series fea- tures an on-screen audio level meter and LTC/VITC time- code support, as well as a non-glossy IPS LCD panel, which provides im- proved picture qual- ity and maintains accurate color re- production at wide viewing angles. Both are equipped with a built-in speaker and ad- justable stand. Tra- ditional rotary knobs allow for sound and picture control. The R Series is designed for apps that don’t require 3G or dual-link inputs, closed captioning, a waveform monitor or vectorscope. 52 OKYO — Fixstars (www.fixstars.com/en), has released the latest version of its H.264 software encoder. Accelcoder V.2.0 (starting at $28,650) offers ease of use, high- video quality and a fast MVC H.264 encoder designed for 2D and 3D Blu-ray productions. Accelcoder efficiently encodes the dual left-eye and right-eye streams in the Multi- view Coding MVC codec fundamental for 3D Blu-ray authoring. The data-intensive 3D en- coding process takes advantage of the speed native to Accelcoder’s multicore architecture. Its realtime encoding ability allows for di- rect encoding of VTR tapes from a deck to H.264 files. New features for this functionality Gridstore offers next-gen NAS NEC intros slim, power-saving display C include SDI display of the input stream while the source is being encoded. The new version’s user interface incorpo- rates many customer comments. High volume projects now go more smoothly thanks to an improved batch encoding function. In addi- tion, adjustment of image quality settings can be set intuitively on the timeline. Accelcoder is based on an HP XP Z800. HICAGO— NEC Display Solutions (www.necdisplay.com) has introduced a new slim LED-backlit monitor series called the MultiSync EX. The first in the line is the 23-inch EX231W, which is equipped with DisplayPort and DVI-I for full HD resolution. The monitor ($339) has an ultra slim bezel (14.6mm width) and weighs only 9.3 lbs. with its stand. A USB pass-through on the top of the monitor allows quick connecting of a Web cam or Flash drive. The monitor’s human sensor detects user activity in front of the unit and reduces its power up to 95 percent with inactivity. Users have the ability to adjust the inactivity length and sensor settings. The monitor’s ambient light sensor detects external light sources and adjusts the display’s brightness accordingly, while its carbon savings meter calculates the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Available this month, the widescreen Multi- Sync EX231W offers 1920x1080 HD resolution, a 25,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and a four- way stand with quick release. New Pro Tools less dependent on hardware B URLINGTON, MA— Avid (www.avid.com) has introduced Pro Tools|HD Native, a new version of Pro Tools that relies on computer CPU host processing power. Making use of an efficient native audio driver, the system provides high perfor- mance without the need for additional dedicated processing hardware. The Pro Tools|HD Native is an integrated hardware and software solution featuring a Pro Tools|HD Native PCIe card and running Pro Tools HD software. The system offers up to 64 channels of premium audio conversion and I/O. Support for Sync HD enables accurate synchronization to picture for post workflows. The sys- tem also integrates with Avid’s ICON and C|24 worksurfaces. Pro Tools|HD Native supports Core Audio and ASIO drivers, enabling broad compatibil- ity with third-party audio applications, such as Apple Logic and Steinberg Cubase. An integrated low-latency mixer allows customers to focus on recording high-quality audio, and the PCIe card enables users to easily establish a low-latency monitor path directly in the system. Customers can choose between Windows 7 and Mac Snow Leopard 10.6 or higher versions. The solution was re- leased November 5 with prices starting at $3,495. Pro Tools|HD Native is also available bundled with Pro Tools|HD OMNI I/O, starting at $5,995. Post • November 2010 www.postmagazine.com MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — Gridstore (www.gridstore.com) recently introduced its next-gen scale- out NAS solution, which combines the convenience and af- fordability of NAS with the scalability, and reliability of en- terprise-class stor- age. The Gridstore NASg Storage Node is based on an Intel/Microsoft 1U rackmount platform. These nodes form the basis of an ex- pandable grid archi- tecture that consoli- dates existing NAS islands into a single storage pool that can grow by adding more nodes. Storage capacity, performance and throughput all in- crease as NASg storage nodes are added to the grid.
