FootageBank imagery sees TV use M ARINA DEL REY, CA — In August, FootageBank (www.FootageBank.com) cin- ematographer Cary Hubbs relocated from Southern California to Prague in the Czech Republic. He then traveled through Eastern and Western Europe, shooting high definition establishing shots using a Canon 5D DSLR camera. After just one month abroad,Hubbs’ footage was licensed for two episodes of the new television show Undercovers.The show centers around a married couple who were both top CIA spies before getting married and retiring from their government jobs. Now running a catering business, the couple has been reinstated in an effort to track down a fellow missing spy. Other television shows that have recently used FootageBank HD’s clips include the new series Mike and Molly, $#*! My Dad Says and Hellcats. Established series such as Big Love, Lie To Me and Bones also regularly use FootageBank material. America at Risk is a documentary about the dangers facing America after the attacks on 9/11.The producer licensed anti-terrorism news footage from the BBC Motion Galler y and CBS News collections, including a news clip from May 2010 about the failed Times Square bomber in New York. Fire From the Heartland is a film that tells the story of American conserv- ative women, and features clips of female conservative political figures that run the gamut, from former English Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann. Footage includes the women on the campaign trail and giving speeches. Thought Equity has also recently struck deals with a number of footage owners to extend the availability of their content. NHK International, the global footage licensing business of Japan’s NHK, entered into a deal with Thought Equity Motion to make its programming and news content available for licensing internationally via the Thought Equity Website (www.thoughte- quity.com), as well as through its global sales network.The HD NHK collec- tion includes videos covering news, sports, culture, the environment, technol- ogy,world-heritage and other global topics. Clips of natural scenes produced by Hokkaido Television Broadcasting are also available. BBC Motion Gallery, the motion clip sales arm of BBC Worldwide, are following through with a deal they struck with Thought Equity Motion back in 2009. BBC Motion Gallery’s new site (www.bbcmotiongallery.com) is powered by Thought Equity Motion’s technology platform and the compa- nies now cross-represent selected international content sales.The new Web presence is improved via millions of video clips,enhanced search capabilities, simplified navigation, and instant complimentary preview downloads. Cus- tomers also benefit from more robust content delivery across a range of formats, as well as licensing content with simplified rights and pricing. Select content from Thought Equity Motion media par tners is available for licensing on www.bbcmotiongallery.com, including material from Para- mount Pictures, National Geographic, Sony Pictures Entertainment, HBO Archives, Smithsonian Channel and an array of royalty-free clips. BBC Mo- tion Gallery has also launched an educational licensing division, led by Jan Ross, senior VP, BBC Motion Gallery, Americas.The division will serve the education market, building on key partnerships created over the last sev- eral years and fostering new business in this area. The New York Times has entered into an arrangement with Thought Eq- uity in which the f ootage provider will ser ve as the exclusive licensing provider for raw footage from The New York Times’ video library.The Times collection consists of footage shot in HD covering news, culture, sports, en- tertainment and technology.
