What's hot Reminder to all ESP members: Member Benefits Fairs Find out how to save $ with your membership. Nov. 15 is deadline to apply for "Leaders for Tomorrow" program SEA is launching a leadership development program for new and future local association leaders amongst our ESP (Educational Support Personnel) members – paras, aides, food service workers, secretaries, bus drivers and custodians. The training is modeled on NEA's Leaders for Tomorrow program from which six DSEA members have graduated: Mike Hoffmann, DSEA's NEA director from Colonial Paras; Pam Ingram, president of the Colonial Paras; Julie Harrington, former president of Appo ESP and parttime UniServ organizer; Patti Reid, former president of the Capital Paras and former member of the DSEA Exec. Board; and Amy Johnson, a para member from Indian River and member of the DSEA Exec. Board. DSEA received a grant from NEA to run its own Leaders for Tomorrow program. Those accepted into the DSEA program will build skills in communication, team building, organizing and recruitment. They will learn the history and importance of Kent County Wednesday, October 23, 3:30 - 6:30 p.m. Dover Downs Conference Center Dover D Sussex County unionism, internal and external organizing skills, how to make memorable presentations, and how to utilize their strengths and weaknesses as leaders. New ESP Resource Center The NEA recently launched the ESP Virtual Career Resource Center, which provides ESP members with a number of resources on issues such as bullying, health care, privatization, school transportation, green schools, worker health and safety, and more. DSEA Online Connections Come tweet with us - follow DSEA on Twitter: www.twitter.com/DS DSEA State Student Association to hold conference in spring he DSEA staff liaison of this new NEA Student chapter is Tammy Wagner who successfully applied for a grant from NEA to hold a statewide student conference for all education majors in Delaware, the first of its kind. Wagner is the student program organizer and executive assistant to DSEA's executive director. She also manages DSEA's Member Benefits program. "Our plans are to hold this conference in early February for a halfday, with presentations on Educators and the Law, the teacher evaluation system, the new Common Core State Standards; Do's T www.dsea.org and Don'ts of a Job Interview; and Member Benefits," she says. Wagner adds that this active group has a Read Across America Day scheduled for March 5 when they will read in classrooms. Several of them attended the NEA Student Conference in Atlanta last summer. They are also working to increase their membership, which currently stands at 67. They have successfully enrolled members from Delaware State University, Wilmington University and Delaware Technical & Community College.
