29 MPEG FELLOWSHIP & SERVICE AWARD 2019 and respected films of our time. Richie would have been overjoyed that Marty was being honored with the Fellowship and Service Award. He truly valued their friendship and enjoyed following the trajectory of Marty's career over the years. They would undoubtedly celebrate with one of their long lunches of schmoozing and sushi. Congratulations Marty, it's well deserved! Barbara Marks Friend/Colleague; Emeritus Professor, UCLA School of Theater, Film & Television From his early days in the cutting room to the days when he supervised all post-production on some of our most memorable films, Marty has been an invaluable member of the Amblin family. His dedication, expertise, commitment to excellence and keen sense of humor always brought a calm, realistic and sensible solution to even the toughest challenges we faced on many films. And he always delivered the prints on time. Congratulations, Marty, on this well- deserved honor, your Amblin family is very proud of you! Lots of love, Frank Marshall & Kathy Kennedy Friends/Colleagues; Producers We all have people in our lives that help build us into the individuals we become, both professionally and personally. Marty has been foundational for me. Always generous with his time and knowledge, Marty has been a consistent source of support, advice, encouragement and a good laugh. He's been a mentor, an educator, and a great role model for staying cool under fire. More than that, he's been a friend. He's always sure to brighten my day with a quick text or email. The fast pace of our industry, and life in general, necessitates that some relationships are more transient than others. Our industry is better for Marty's years of steady leadership, and I am personally better for his years of dependable friendship. Jamal McLemore Friend/Mentee; Assistant Editor Marty Cohen is called the Godfather of Post-Production but that is only one aspect of who he is… He is also a father to four successful and wonderful children, a caring grandfather to two beautiful granddaughters and for 38 years he has been a loving and devoted husband to Kathy. Marty always makes time to take a phone call, answer a question or listen to a problem and willingly offers advice based on years of experience. He has given many editors and post executives their start. He has been an invaluable mentor to countless others. Working with Marty, I have seen that he has a very large heart. He cares deeply about his post-production crew's welfare, the filmmakers' visions, the studio's budget and, most importantly, the integrity of the industry. His passion is preserving the art form. Marty deals fairly with everyone, from the director to the post-production PA, to ensure they deliver their best. I consider myself fortunate to have had Marty as a boss but I am even more fortunate to have Marty as a friend. By the way, if you are ever looking for Marty, try the Katsuya in Studio City at 1pm! Tricia Miles Tharp Friend/Colleague; Post-Production Supervisor Congratulations to my friend and colleague Marty Cohen on receiving the Motion Picture Editors Guild's Fellowship and Service Award. This is truly a well- deserved honor. Over his career, Marty helped to define today's role of the post-production supervisor, associate producer, and studio post-production executive. I met Marty on Roger Rabbit and have been fortunate to work with him on many films since. I have always admired Marty's creative instincts, collaboration and understanding of the production and distribution process, and I've learned so much from him over the years. His unique insight, charm and curiosity always supported the filmmaker's vision and inspired everyone to perform their best under some of the most challenging post-production and global release pressures. Marty, thank you for many years as a true partner in the post-production and release of our films, as well as for your counsel and, most importantly, your friendship over our careers. Jeff Miller Friend/Colleague; President, Studio Operations, The Walt Disney Studios
