58 The Costume Designer Spring 2019 IN FOCUS BOLDFACE NAMES BFN - WORK CD Nancea Ceo recently designed Season 2 for Showtime's series The Chi, created by Lena Waithe and Common, which has been criti- cally acclaimed for its bold street style and gritty aesthetic which showcases Chicago's South Side. Much of the filming was done in areas that are perceived to be dangerous. The experience of film- ing in these locations gave Ceo great insights about the South Side families and individuals, with all their hopes and dreams, who root this series in reality and local street style. Ceo also styled the show's ad campaign for photographer Tyler Mitchell, who was the first Afri- can-American photographer to shoot a Vogue cover. Jason Mitchell, Jacob Latimore, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, and Yolonda Ross head up the ensemble cast. Ceo thanks her Chicago costume crew who brought amazing heart to this project! New to Season 2, CD Tish Monaghan is in Vancouver, BC, design- ing The Terror, an anthology series for AMC and Scott Free Produc- tions. Set in the 1940s, it focuses on a series of bizarre deaths that haunt a Japanese-American community during their internment in World War II. While challenged by a tight schedule, Monaghan was stimulated by the period content and the historical storyline, which was infiltrated by elements of ghostly Japanese folklore. Multiple kimonos were created using historical references and artwork as a starting point. The costumes then veer off into the world of the Jake (Michael Epps), Papa (Shamon Brown Jr.), and Kevin (Alex R. Hibbert) in The Chi Tish Monaghan, Sharon Fauvel, Katy Johnson, and Takashi Bernhardt (L to R)
