Since the golden era of Hollywood, you'd find them propped open in front of mirrors, carried across the backlot or even used as a handy seat on location. These cases, in their various finishes of walnut or leatherette, lined with red or green felt, have been carried all over the world and often get passed on from one artist to another. You'll find numerous cases on display with their vintage contents at the Hollywood Museum housed in the Max Factor Building, including the case that once belonged to Max Factor himself. Visit the Local 706 office and you'll find the cases of Howard Smit, Tommy Cole and Ray Romero, to name only a few. Built to last, though now hard to come by and often imitated, the fabled boxes that carried the secrets behind Tinseltown's faces were made by H. Gerstner & Sons. And while the
