14 • THE ARTISAN WINTER 2019 GUILD NEWS CRAFT EDUCATION Upholding the Craft Levi Vieira Rhonda thanked hair stylists Kenneth Walker, Mary Mastro and Janet Moore with beautiful certificates. As artists, it's important to stay connected to our creative com- munity, up to date on skills and techniques, current with product knowledge and aware of resources available to Guild members. It's with this in mind that the Local 706 Make-up Craft Meetings have grown in scope and strength, and continue to serve as one of our most beneficial and exclusive resources. 2018 was an exciting year for the programs and 2019 is shaping up to be even better. The 706 Make-up Craft Meetings have been around almost as long as the Local, and some are even recorded and archived within the Local office. They've changed with the times, but education has always been at the core, with members sharing techniques and ideas. This blueprint led to the genesis of The International Makeup Artist Trade Show, as former Make-up Craft President Michael Key, who recently returned to take part in a craft meeting, expanded and shared the concept. The current format, generally lasting three hours on several Sundays a year, has focused on a balance of leading beauty, skincare, and FX brands, with demonstrations from both sponsoring product brands and our own top artists. It's a rapid-fire afternoon, filled with free giveaways, announcements, refreshments, and social- izing among peers. 2018 saw beautiful make-up demonstrations from Glen Alen, who showcased his flawless drag transformation and Pepe Mora and Levi Vieira, who presented a glamorous piranha woman. Bob Romero also presented a cross section of hair techniques accompanied by rousing stories from his impressive career. Last year saw the addition of a 706 Roadshow of vintage products and tools, with classic items presented by Melanie Levitt, Bob Romero and John Goodwin with a bit of history. And the list of contributing guest companies was formidable. Glycelene, Eclat Naturals, Pinkie Swear, Skindinavia, Dermaflage, Lazerfuzion, The Makeup Light, Premier Products, Inc., Necessary Evil Mouth FX, Moroccan Magic, Vita Liberata, Enlightened Expressions, Fallene, Ltd., Wake Up Make Up, Paw Palette, Besame, MUA Limited, VueSet, EBA, Lashify, Collosol, Take My Face Off, Pacific Instruments, NYX and The Powder Group were just some of the leading industry brands that presented to our membership, with many of them returning to showcase their latest professional prod- ucts. But special thanks should be made to Dana Nye, who brought long-standing brand Ben Nye to almost every event this year, focus- ing on exciting newly developed products and generous giveaways to amp up members' kits. We look forward to more Ben Nye in 2019. International brands were in the mix as well, with products from PAM, Robert Smith Make-Up FX Blood and Makeup 54 on hand. Look for more hot products and industry leaders crossing the pond soon. Expect forthcoming collaborations from NARS, it! Cosmetics, Senna, Lemonhead, Suit Beauty and many more. Thank you to Make-up Craft secretary Claire Doyle for all the hard work putting our pro- grams together and thank you to the members who made it out. We look forward to seeing more of you this year, as the Make-up Craft Meeting continues to serve and strengthen our membership.
