V I C E | P E R S P E C T I V E 7 7 Writing an article about Vice from the Middle East gives me a different perspective on certain events depicted in this movie… The Adventure Begins At the beginning of 2018, I had the pleasure of getting a physical copy of Adam McKay's script about the life and times of Dick Cheney. I remember reading it from the hotel room where I was staying in Los Angeles, devouring each page and, I have to admit, often loudly commenting on some the passages even though I was by myself… At one point, I even caught myself jumping up and down on the bed out of pure excitement. To be honest, you don't get the chance to read a script like that every day and I wish that everybody would get that chance. A meeting with McKay was quickly organized and I had the opportunity to discuss the script with him. Aristotle was proven right: "Man is a political animal." I've always been interested in politics. Being born and raised in Canada, I've always seen the relationship between our two countries as similar to a family. America being the oldest of the kids, the one that we look up to and paves the way for the younger ones to follow. The one that will set the tone to what we will eventually become. The influence of the United States is so important that if America sneezes, we all catch a cold. I would say the majority of people living on this planet know who the president of the United States is. Whether present-day or past administrations, America is without any doubt the most influential global citizen. What is being discussed on a daily basis in big and more discrete offices in D.C. will shape the future of this planet, as it has done in the past. The Butterfly Effect The insight into the political machine in McKay's script was extremely rich and well documented. American politics over the past sixty years seen through the channel of a man from Casper, Wyoming. A man who would be living his dreams and would eventually become one of the most A. THE POLITICAL GAME. BOARD ILLUSTRATION BY AARON MORRISON.
