from the 1934 film Cleopatra. Hans Dreier and Roland
Anderson, Art Directors. The drawing is graphite on
illustration board. 15 x 20 inches.
To the left is a still from the film with Claudette
Colbert as Cleopatra. The Cecil B. DeMille epic film is
memorable for the art deco look of it sets. This film
was shot in around six weeks at a cost of $842,000,
and was the second most popular movie at the US
box office for 1934. It was nominated for four Oscars,
including Best Picture, and won for Cinematography.
DeMille also hired William Cameron Menzies for
work on the montage sequences.
