multiple calls with the writers Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg regarding theme, characters and the overall program of the facility. Assembling a team in a city I've never worked in meant that I was relying heavily on fellow designers' recommendations. I surely lucked out, with Richard Bloom as the Art Director, Callie Andreadis as the Assistant Art Director and Doug Mowat as set decorator. I have to thank the recent shift to so many productions being done in Atlanta, as most of this talent really wanted to stay at home in Los Angeles instead of traveling again. This is how I got Brad Einhorn as prop master and the genius behind the drug-making montage at the beginning of episode four. Sam had referenced some films and mentioned he wanted this show to tonally feel like an old thriller. Along with reference boards in the office, there was a wall full of images only relating to tone and color, I kept images from The Parallax View, Klute, Don't Look Now and The Conversation pinned near my desk. Not because the production would reference them directly, but to keep the focus on the mood and tone. The facility is meant to be a converted building in an office complex. Abandoned for years, the Geist Corporation (which owns the entire complex) has renovated and repurposed one of the buildings to be used as the transitional support program. The bones of the original building are there, as well as all of the finishes. But a superficial layer was brought in to create a somewhat domestic feeling for the soldiers. The banality of the office building juxtaposes against the odd artwork and almost modern Marriott-style hotel bedrooms. The sparseness of it all was to help reinforce the slightly eerie tone of the space. The exterior A B A. COLOR PALETTE. B. MOOD BOARD FOR THE HOMECOMING FACILITY. C.
