D compressive force of a fifty-two story structure above it, and at the same time display something as delicate as a rose-gold cylinder of lipstick on a velvet sachet. Brute masculinity in the shape of rough board formed concrete columns and beams crossing paths with feminine smooth formed 'V' shaped trusses were the elements employed to give the Beauty Closet a laconic splendor that conveyed the weight of the world on its shoulders yet felt as light as feathers. How to show a warehouse of beauty products, yet at the same time not show it, was the other big challenge of this set. There were so many products that it would have taken a dedicated clearance and product placement department to deal with the volume. The solution was to create one hundred floating drawers with semi-translucent plexiglass fronts. The frosted glass would allow the audience to see the hazy silhouette of the beauty products without being able to read the brand names. This design saved thousands upon thousands of dollars in product and legal fees because a majority of the frosted drawers could be filled with product from a dollar store and reveal only scripted or pre-cleared name brands in selected drawers that the actor would open. Both the Daisy Chain and Beauty Closet stages were long and narrow, but where the former needed to be lit from the ends, it worked best to light the Beauty Closet from the sides. In this way, the long wall of suspended frosted plexiglass drawers fulfilled multiple functions at once. The semi-translucent drawers allowed a dramatic display of beauty product, concealed brand names from the view of curious lawyers, and allowed light to pass through their faces creating a natural and logical light source for the set.
