Introducing A Legend Continues IN CALIFORNIAWINE, THERE’S NO NAME more iconic than Mondavi. Italian immigrant Cesare Mondavi began the long family story when he first invested in Napa Valley in 1933 and purchased Charles Krug winery ten years later. Cesare’s son Robert, who left the family’s established business in 1966 to open his own eponymous winery, is remembered as the man who put Napa Valley on the map. In 2005, Robert and his son Tim and daughter Marcia, founded a new estate to create a Napa “first growth” wine. They chose an appropriate name: Continuum. Unlike Robert’s original valley-floor estate in Oakville, the 172-acre Continuum property sits high atop Pritchard Hill, above Lake Hennessey, on the east side of Napa Valley. With original vines dating to the early 1990s, the vineyard also contains newer plantings and replantings that focus on specific clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot that are suited to the site’s elevation and soils. Robert passed away in 2008, age 94, after a long and legendary career. Today, Tim, Marcia and their respective children continue the Mondavi Tim Mondavi at Continuum Estate. family legacy at Continuum with a no-compromise attitude. As Robert envisioned, the result is a stellar expression of Napa Valley Cabernet, world-class in every respect. Currently, fourth-generation family members Dante and Carlo Mondavi have transformed a large motorhome RV into the “Continuum Grand Cru-zer” and are taking the 2007 release of Continuum on the road in this tasting salon on wheels. Stops in May include San Antonio, Austin, Tulsa and Oklahoma City. www.continuumestate.com velvety with ripe plum and black raspberry, spice and lovely juicy fruit with firm acidity; luscious, bright and seamless with exceptional depth and fruit; supple and complete. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Cabernet Franc, 18% Petit Verdot. 97 Continuum 2007, Napa Valley ($140) Smooth and 100% Agave 100% Natural 100% Smooth www.karmatequi la.com Be Good.
