PATRONS | Spring 2018 42 EVERY DONATION COUNTS Local Girl Scout Troop Celebrates Pediatric Nurses Staying true to the Girl Scout promise to serve mankind, Torrance Girl Scout troop 1095 used a portion of its cookie sale proceeds to recognize Torrance Memorial Medical Center Pediatric nurses with a surprise thank- you celebration. e fifth graders from Riviera Grand Elementary School expressed their appreciation to the nurses for their care and compassion in helping children overcome illness. e troop provided a cake, snacks and survival kits, complete with chewing gum, candy and an inspirational note. All of the girls also hand wrote notes of appreciation, which were put on display at the party. Pediatric Patients Receive Holiday Delivery A local family recently decided to help out Santa with a special delivery just before Christmas 2017. At a holiday party hosted in their home, Laura and Joe Gregorio invited 300 guests to bring a toy to donate to Torrance Memorial Medical Center. By the end of the party, the Gregorios had collected nine commercial-size trash bags full of toys, along with dozens of gift cards. Laura, her daughter Jennifer and grandchildren Courtney and Cooper delivered the toys to Torrance Memorial's Child Life Specialist Gina Sievert. Courtney and Cooper also hand delivered items that same day to a few patients in the pediatric and burn units, as well as the emergency department. COOPER AND COURTNEY CLINTON GREET PEDIATRIC PATIENT SAILOR HAINES Babies Sport Tiny Red Hats for Heart Health Torrance Memorial Medical Center hosted a photo opportunity to celebrate its participation in the American Heart Association's Little Hats, Big Hearts program. Torrance Memorial received more than 250 handmade knitted red caps, instead of traditional pink or blue, to help raise awareness about congenital heart defects, the most common type of birth defect. e hats, knitted by community members and local organizations such as the Girl Scouts, were personally delivered to newborns and their families on Tuesday, February 13 by leaders from the American Heart Association.
