We went as far north as Winterton, Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal and the Golden Gate area where we had lunch at a mid-century modern building that was a hotel and high-end restaurant tucked up in the mountains miles from any city. The dining room had windows on all sides from floor to ceiling and I could see out to the giant sandstone mountains with streaks as black as coal where water has run down for all of time. After a harrowing hike up the Sentinel mountains, near the amphitheatre, we ended at Johannesburg where I watched a Japanese anime parade marching down the street. A burst of pinks, greens, reds, yellows, amongst modern buildings with hints of traditional African architecture. We flew back to Cape Town the next day to do it all over again with the rest of the team. Our group spent three weeks in South Africa before heading to South Korea for the last leg of the journey. We landed in Incheon and drove to Seoul. The best part of Seoul, for me, was going to Zaha Hadid's Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP). The building had a sense of humor and whimsy. It is filled with things that make you feel good. The structure is a large voluptuous sculpture, curving and turning as you walk through it. The enormous spaces felt intimate because of the lower ceilings, some unexpected in such a large space. There was A. WARRIOR FALLS ILLUSTRATION BY TANI KUNITAKE USING PHOTOSHOP. B.
