Pixel Magic expands to LA T OLUCA LAKE, CA— Twenty-five year old visual effects and restoration studio Pixel Magic (www.pixelmagic.com), headquartered here, has opened a satellite studio in Layfayette, Louisiana. Pixel Magic's new 3,000-square-foot studio is located at the LITE Center on the University of Louisiana at Lafayette campus.The studio is taking ad- vantage of LITE's technology.Their infrastructure offers Pixel Magic the ability of high-speed rendering and increased capacity to produce any size VFX effects job.With a current set up of 20 workstations, Pixel's capabili- ties include a full range of VFX services in 2D and 3D.The company uses software for digital compositing, wire and rig removals, 3D animation, and 3D set extensions. Pixel also uses its own particles system for creating smoke, fire, and clouds.Additionally, the company is expanding its resources for stereo 3D conversions. Pixel Magic's GM Ray Scalice says the decision to set up in Lafayette was based on a combination of factors, including tax incentives, programs that provide work-force training and the LITE Center's digital infrastructure. www.postmagazine.com April 2010 • Post 7
