Contributors Lisa Mouhibian Holiday Brunch, P 22 . The holidays can be such a wonderful time of sharing, loving and giving, and that also means sharing a table with family and friends. I've always felt that food should be enjoyed, not agonized over, and that we shouldn't have to sacriice lavor for health. That's why it was such a pleasure to discover healthy, tasty brunch inds here in L.a for this holiday season. Visi Tilak Healthy Teas, P 21 . I grew up drinking teas infused with herbs and spices to help treat minor ailments. I was a young vocalist with a chronic sore throat problem, and my mother would not hear of a tonsillitis operation, lest it change my tone. she consulted with her elders and they consulted books and friends and ultimately came up with delicious, soothing concoctions that actually helped me feel better. Now I live by these teas and recommend them to all I know. Jean Philippe Veilleux Silence, P 20 . as a meditant and lover of nature, I try to embrace silence as often as possible to reduce my stress level and rediscover the beauty hidden in simplicity. after reading Thoreau's Walden or Life in the Woods, I felt the urge to explore solitude. What I discovered was silence. Susan Hornik On The Road, P 30 . as a poet and former publicist of New York's Nuyorican Poets Cafe, where I was lucky enough to see one of alan Ginsberg's last performances of "Howl," I've always been obsessed with all things Beat. My favorite teacher at UCLa extension was Philomene Long, known as the poet laureate of Venice and Queen of Bohemia. In her ilm, The Beats: an existential Comedy, Ginsberg and Lawrence Ferlinghetti made appearances. I dedicate this story to her. Every person has their own road to take in life; we can't take it for them.
