AROUND AEA Awards and Grants: Honoring Special Projects and Special People AEA and the AEA Foundation for Teaching & Learning offer several award and grant programs. Most nominations are due February 20, 2013. For more information, or to download an applica- tion, go to www.arizonaea.org. Christa McAuliffe Award This annual award rec- ognizes an educator who inspires his or her peers and makes them proud to be a teacher. Named for Christa McAuliffe, the first American civilian – and teacher – in space, this award honors an Arizona educator. The state winner becomes AEA's en- trant in the NEA Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence and also receives a cash award from the AEA Foundation. ESPecially for Kids Award This award recog- nizes extraordinary efforts by classified education support pro- fessionals on behalf of young people. Winners are honored for doing things that directly benefit students and go beyond the usual ex- pectations of their job. The 2013 recipient will receive a cash award from the AEA Foundation. Human and Civil Rights Award This award recognizes leadership in pro- moting ethnic minority participation in the Association, programs or activities that lead to improved human relations, efforts that lead 10 Winter 2012/13 x AEA Advocate Kids to improvement in school district support of human and civil rights, or successful imple- mentation of human and civil rights in Arizona education. The 2013 recipient will receive a cash award from the AEA Foundation. AEA Diversity Grant The AEA Diversity Grant offers an opportuni- ty to develop and pursue instructional programs or curriculum that promote diversity, tolerance, and respect for humankind. LIFT LIFT Grant AEA Learning Improvement through Faculty Teams (LIFT) Grants are given for the purpose of enhancing student learning through the col- laboration of faculty, who may include support professionals. o e PROMISE GRANTS Promise Grant Promise Grant supports members' small projects that are in the spirit of AEA's mis- sion – "Keeping the promise of quality public education" – and address one of AEA's Strategic Objectives. n A o E t A a … u k d e e e p c i i n l b g u t p h e t i p l r a o q m i f s u y c i
