12 • LMGI COMPASS | Winter 2018 by Angus Ledgerwood China Interna- tional Micro- Film Exhibition This month, I had the honor and pleasure of sitting on the exhibition jury for the Fifth China International Micro- Film Exhibition in Hangzhou. The exhibition was hosted by the Hangzhou Municipal People's Government, CCTV and CCTV Central New Film Group with the support of China Australia Film & Television Ltd. The ceremony was televised nationally on the CCTV network. The opportunity came about through a contact I met nearly three years previously in Shanghai, on another mission to scout and build relationships within the Chinese market. Through consistent communication, we have shared our knowledge of both Chinese business culture, and the Australian, American and British industry practices that I have grown accustomed to over the last decade. From this, I have been able to create a great friendship that has led to business opportunities that may have otherwise never been possible. The Exhibition showcased international films, with different stories to tell. The theme was commonwealth, art, prosperity and development. While a number of films sang true to this theme, it was also used with some imaginative interpretation. As a location manager, I appreciated the use of locations to enhance the story, adding authenticity to the director's world. The Art Direction category was awarded to Isabella (Italy- Maria Morselli & Francesco Foroni), who masterfully used locations to stunningly recreate the 15th-century true story of events surrounding Isabella d'Este. As a member of the jury, I was specifically asked to provide insight into the use of locations to further their story and character. It was a pleasure to see the Chinese industry embracing the significance of the location manager as a creative and independent feature of production design. I was joined on the jury by Australian actress Priscilla- L to R: Priscilla-Anne Forder, Angus Ledgerwood, Jianxin Huang, and Zon Shih, CEO of China Australia Film & TV Pty LTD.
