PATRONS | Winter 2017 34 IN YOUR COMMUNITY Sixteen graduating senior Novas were honored for their four years of service and leadership to Torrance Memorial Medical Center, during the annual Grand Finale Celebration on Sunday, May 21. The Novas and Luminaries are com- prised of high school students and their mothers, whose sole purpose is to support Torrance Memorial through volunteering and fundraising. Collectively, these seniors have volunteered more than 4,500 hours over their four years of high school. The festive evening, themed "Life Is Sweet," was chaired by Julie Makrygiannis and Jill Galdones. The Novas presented gift baskets to the Pedi- atric Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Burn Unit, with items from their wish lists including iPads, portable speakers and a portable storage cart. In addition, a $40,000 check was presented to the Torrance Memorial Foundation. Novas Celebrate a Grand Finale Picture-perfect weather set the scene for another successful Holiday Festival wine procurement party at the home of Laura and Marc Schenasi. Guests donated wines from their personal collections for the silent and live auctions at the upcoming Holi- day Festival Gala on December 1, under the big white tent. The event was co-hosted silent auction co-chairs Song Klein, Diane Landon, Helaine Lopes and Kathleen Wilson. As the bottles were being tabulated, attendees enjoyed live music, cocktails and delectable appetizers.
