CONNECTING MATHEMATICS TO OTHER SUBJECT
AREAS GRANTS
The purpose of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics'
(NCTM) Connecting Mathematics to Other Subject Areas Grants
for 9-12 Teachers grant is to create senior high classroom materials
or lessons connecting mathematics to other fi elds. Materials may
be in the form of books, visual displays, computer programs or
displays, slideshows, videotapes, or other appropriate medium. The
focus of these materials should be on showing the connectivity of
mathematics to other fi elds or to the everyday world.
Applicants must be a current full individual or e-member of
NCTM and currently teach mathematics in grades 9 through 12 at
least 50 percent of the school day. No person(s) may receive more
than one award administered by MET in the same academic year.
Past recipients of this grant are not eligible to reapply. Grants up to
$4,000 each are awarded. Applications are due November 3, 2017.

EDUCATORS
This back-to-school season, the Department of Defense's (DoD)
Military Kids Connect® program is highlighting helpful resources
for military children and their educators. Military Kids Connect is
the fi rst and only DoD web-based resource designed specifi cally to

EARTH SCIENCE WEEK STUDENT PHOTOGRAPHY
CONTEST
Calling all student photographers! The American Geosciences
Institute is sponsoring a contest during Earth Science week. To
participate, students of all ages can submit a photo that relates to this
year's theme: "Earth and Human Activity Here," so ways that humans
interact with Earth systems. One grand prize winner receives a $300
