Twentieth Century Fox's "War for the Planet of the Apes" drew in massive box-office crowds and racked up rave reviews from critics upon its July debut. Directed by Matt Reeves and starring Andy Serkis, the third installment of the sci-fi franchise follows Caesar and his clan of primates in a battle of epic proportions against the human race. Marrying live action and CG, the film has been praised for its rich, realistic visuals that engulf viewers into the story. Achieving such an incredible visual feat required a combination of creativity and talent from the director, screenwriters and actors, and a team of artists at New Zealand-based VFX house Weta Digital. The film boasts full-CG environments and detailed simulations, in addition to a considerable number of photoreal apes. Weta delivered an impressive 1,415 shots and 1,699 assets for the film. Keeping all of the work organized and production on track proved easier than with previous projects, with Shotgun Software now part of Weta's pipeline. Prior to the film, the facility migrated to Shotgun, and has since been able to standardize its production tracking workflow, consolidate tools, streamline data storage and provide one overall site for scheduling across shows. "Shot- gun's speed and easy-to-use interface helped us navigate a huge amount of data quickly, which is important when handling such a large shot count and so many elements in each shot," explains Weta Digital Producer Hugo Morris. "It can be challenging to locate files quick- ly, but Shotgun's filtering UI helps us find what we need without worrying that things will be missed." Shotgun has also simplified Weta's scheduling process, making it easy to quickly schedule waterfall views and WETA DIGITAL GOES APE FOR VFX ON "WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES" By Autodesk Sponsored Article
