NAB 2017 NEWS www.postmagazine.com 39 POST APRIL 2017 PARK RIDGE, NJ — In late March, Sony (https://pro.sony.com) announced firmware upgrades for a number of its cameras, including the PXW-Z150, PXW-FS5 and PXW-X400. Version 2.0 for the Z150 V2.0 will be available for free in July and adds sup- port for High Dynamic Range (HDR) by shooting in Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) standard. There is also now sup- port for high-quality streaming using QoS by network client mode and support for the system link (tally dis- play and synchronized recording) with RM-30BP remote commander and MCX-500 multi-camera live producer (both sold separately). In addition, level settings can now be adjusted in one percent increments. The FS5 will receive a free V.4.0 upgrade in July. New features include support for HDR by shooting in Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) standard and support for continuous 120fps high frame rate recording in 1080p with the CBKZ-FS5HFR (sold separately). There is also a new option to change the minimum ISO sensitivity number to ISO 2000 from ISO 3200 when recording S-Log2/S-Log3. The CBK-Z450UK is an optional paid upgrade for the X400, and will be available in early 2017. The 4K upgrade kit gives the X400 the ability to record 4K QFHD (3840x2160) as XAVC Intra and XAVC Long GOP at 50p/59.94p. ASSIMILATE UPDATES SCRATCH TO V.8.6 SANTA CLARA, CA — Assimilate (www.assimilateinc.com) is showing Version 8.6 of its Scratch solution, which is designed for dailies, con- forming, color grading, compositing, finishing and mastering. New prod- uct highlights include expand- ed support for HDR functions, numerous new formats, a more user-friendly UI, and more efficient DIT tools. In addition, Assimilate's Scratch Play review and playback tool gains support for new 2D, 3D and VR formats. Version 8.6 of Scratch allows users to easily mix and match HDR and SDR material as well as create multiple deliverables in a single proj- ect. PQ and HLG transfer functions are now an integral part of Scratch's color management. Scopes now automatically switch to HDR mode if needed and show levels in a nit- scale. Settings are now automatically included in the video-output signal to the reference monitor, including color space, color primaries and white levels, and luminance levels. Format support has been expand- ed with the addition of Panasonic Varicam LT DNG and the ability to create 10-bit H264 SDR or HDR out- put in resolutions up to 8192x6144. Avid roundtripping has been sim- plified with a new high-speed DNx MXF encoder for OpAtom and Op1A, including DNxHR. Performance has also been improved for QuickTime and XAVC MXF playback. DITs will see more efficient work- flows thanks to new reporting tools. Users will benefit from a new UI that's more intuitive and requires a shorter learning curve to master. Scratch 8.6 is available immedi- ately, starting at $75.00/month, or $650/year. STEINBERG DEBUTS NUENDO 8 DAW SOFTWARE BUENA PARK, CA — Steinberg Media Technologies (www. yamaha.com) will release Nuendo 8 in June, the latest version of its digital audio workstation software. Nuendo 8 places emphasis on sound design, providing users with the necessary tools to create and manipulate audio. The Sound Randomizer plug-in creates different variations of a sound instantaneously, adjusting its pitch, timbre, impact and timing. The newly introduced Sampler Track is an easily-accessible tool that allows users to drag and drop audio from the MediaBay into the track, and play and manipulate the sample. Also included in Nuendo 8 is the virtual-analog Retrologue 2 synthesizer; HALion Sonic SE 3; over 80 effects processors, including the new eight-band fully parametric frequency EQ; and an assortment taken from the 2017 Hybrid Library by Pro Sound Effects. A newly developed video engine replaces the former QuickTime-based engine. SONY ANNOUNCES CAMERA FIRMWARE UPGRADES TV LOGIC DEBUTS NEW 4K MONITORS BURBANK, CA — TVLogic (www.tv- logicusa.com) is introducing a number of new monitors at this year's NAB Show, including the LUM-310R and LEM-550R. The LUM-310R is a 31-inch 4K (4096x2160) HDR LCD reference master monitor featuring 2000 nit maximum luminance. The monitor supports various HDR standards, such as SMPTE ST2084, ST2086 and ST2094 (pending), Hybrid- Log Gamma (HLG), and more. It also supports multiple color gamuts includ- ing Rec.709, DCI-P3, and Rec.2020. Signal I/O includes 3G/6G/12G-SDI input via one, two or four SDI connec- tions, as well as HDMI (V.2.0). The LEM-550R is a 55-inch UHD OLED HDR monitor that's well-suit- ed for post production applications, including QC. The OLED panel offers a UHD resolution of 3840x2160 and can reproduce a maximum luminance of up to 750 nits. The LEM-550R supports various HDR standards and multiple color gamuts, including Rec.709, DCI, and Rec.2020.
